Due to the rise in COVID-19 numbers and the recommendations from the governor in his press conference this afternoon, we are cancelling the worship service for this Sunday, 7/12/20, and until further notice.

It was wonderful to be together in worship this past Sunday and I look forward to when we can safely begin in-person worship again.

Mid-Week Update video & guidelines: June 17, 2020

Dear Church Family,

We continue to plan and prepare to offer in-person worship beginning Sunday July 5th. We all look forward to gathering together in worship again. While we are trying our best to create a safe environment for everyone, I do want to remind those who may be at risk or put other’s at risk as well as those in the vulnerable population to feel free to stay home. I want to remind you that the safety precautions which may feel uncomfortable to us individually are not for our own protection but for the protection of others, especially the most vulnerable among us. I am including the guidelines for the upcoming worship gathering. We hope that we will be able to loosen these requirements soon, but as always, we want to follow the recommended best practices. This is a new situation for all of us and we thank you for your love, support, and patience as we move forward together and a church family.

Mid-Week Update & Devotion

April 29, 2020

Dear Church Family,

Click on the link below for this week's devotional thought.

Also, today I received the May/June Upper Room devotional guides. I was trying to think about how we could deliver the guides to you. I also thought that there may be more people interested in the Upper Room than we have copies for. Then I received an email from the Upper Room including spiritual resources that they are offering. I have included two below. You will find a link to the entire May/June issue of The Upper Room for free. You will also find a link for a Facebook Live daily prayer. I hope to include additional resources in the future. You are also welcome to drop by the church to pick up a paper copy of The Upper Room. Call first please! Please let us know if you have concerns or needs.

In Christ,
         Chuck

Click below for a PDF file with the entire text of the May/June issue of The Upper Room that they are allowing us to freely share with everyone in our congregation as a gift. They realize that many readers are currently reticent or unable to pick up their copy of the devotional guide because of the virus or closed church office.

Wednesday, April 22, 2020 Mid-Week Update & Devotion

Dear Church Family,

Here is this week's update and Devotion (click on link below). We will continue to place Worship videos on line this Sunday. The Shelter in Place order is supposed to end Monday, April 27th. Most likely after that we will have to continue with social distancing, so we are not sure yet at what point we will begin regular worship.

Also, some people have shared this week that they had mail returned to them that had been mailed to the church street address. Several weeks ago, I had our Street Address mail forwarded to the PO Box because we were not sure when the postal worker would be delivering. There may have been some confusion there. According to the Post Office everything is now set up correctly for the mail forwarding, so your mail should come to the PO Box and not returned to you. However, if you'd rather, you can mail directly to the PO Box address:

I also wanted to invite you to watch “The Chosen”. This is a series based on the life of Jesus. While there are creative elements added the episodes are engaging. My family enjoyed each episode. They can serve as wonderful discussion starters. They are well done and entertaining. The first season has been offered online for free. You can find them on YouTube or you can download The Chosen app. It is just an opportunity to engage with the gospel story in a new way.

Mid-week Update from the Pastor  4/1/20

Dear Church Family,

The Executive Team met this week and decided to continue the cancelation of church events through April 30. We will continue to assess the situation. Again this week, we will place the Sunday sermon and music on the church website and send out an email with the link as well as posting it to Facebook.

This Sunday is Palm Sunday, so I am asking individuals, families, and especially children to make or find some palm branches and send a picture. You may color some, find some in your yard, or make them with construction paper. Get creative and have some fun. Take a picture of yourself, family, child or even a pet with you palms and email it to me at chuck@stlukesjackson.org. I hope to create a video for Sunday. Please try to send them by Friday at noon.

While the online video Sunday message has worked, we are hoping to broaden this for Holy Week. I would love for us to be connected at the same time during that week. Through Zoom we are hoping to offer an online communion for Holy Thursday. That would mean you would use some type of juice or bread from your home. Then we will share in the sacrament together. This is very different but during this difficult time I feel it is important for us to have a way to partake of this means of grace together.

We also hope to offer some live worship for Easter Sunday through Zoom and Facebook Live. You will be hearing more about this opportunity through email and the website.

Holy Week is such a special time for us. I am disappointed that we cannot share through worship together. However, it is through the Christ event that we are given eternal life and our hope is renewed. That is the source of our joy no matter where we are.

Again, I thank you for continuing to give. You may give online (click here to donate), or you may mail in your check. Your continued giving helps us to fulfill our obligations and continue to serve. Please see the April 1st devotion below.

In Christ,

Chuck

Mid-week Update from the Pastor

Hello Church family.

To keep staff and volunteers safe during this continued health event, we will be limiting the church office hours to 9:00 to 12:30 Monday thru Thursday. What that means is that myself or someone else will be physically in the office during those hours. You may still call the church during regular office hours.  Phone calls and emails will be received remotely. Also, if you have any pastoral emergency you may call my cell number sent out in the church-wide email.

Below is the link to today’s video devotion. We will continue to send out sermons and other information through email, Facebook, and the church website.

Also, I want to thank those who have continued to give online and mailing checks. Your donations allow us to continue to pay bills and fulfill our obligations to staff and local companies in this difficult time.

Executive Team will be meeting Monday to discuss the upcoming weeks. We will send out additional information.

In Christ,

Chuck

Tuesday, 3/17/20

Hello Church Family,

I wanted you to know that the Church Executive Team met last night and we have decided to cancel Worship for March 22 & 29 and Church activities until March 30. We will determine if this needs to be extended in the future.  While it is sad that we will not be able to be together we do want to limit the spread of the virus. We will have minimal staff at the office; however, I will be coming into the office. So, if you have concerns or pastoral emergencies contact the church office or my cell phone.

I will continue to put messages online as well as communicate regularly through email, Facebook, and the website. I am also working to call individuals. Please follow us on Facebook at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. Yes, I have returned to Facebook and I am working to become comfortable with the new features. A lot has changed in 5 years.

We encourage Sunday School classes and small groups to stay in contact with one another. Use email, Facebook, other digital platforms or the good old telephone to communicate.

In addition, we do encourage you to remember to give. While we are not able to meet together the church still has bills to pay and obligations to fulfill. We want to do the right thing for our staff, local vendors, and the community. As you know, all that we are able to do comes from your commitment and sacrificial giving. We thank you for all that you have done and will do. You can mail a check or give online through the website or click here. We may also add a donation button to our Facebook page.

While this is a strange time it is not a time to be ruled by fear. We know there will be times of difficulty but we also know that Jesus is still our Lord and Savior. God is with us. And, we are still the Body of Christ.

In Christ,

      Chuck

Saturday, 3/14/20

We as a church want to help any way we can to stop the spread of this virus. Therefore, we did cancel worship for Sunday morning, March 15, as well as Wednesday night activities, March 18. Watch for emails and keep an eye on our website for updates on this situation.

I have placed a message on line for Sunday morning. You may go to the "about" page on the site and click "listen to sermons" or you may click the link below.
