Gracious God, as I wander in my own times of feeling lost, seek me out. I pray that your Spirit would come for me when I am far away and never let me be lost. As I come to Your scripture this day, allow the words to speak to my heart and the call you have placed on my life to serve you. In Christ’s Name, Amen.
Jeremiah 4: 11-12, 22-28
God's cleansing wind
In this passage the strength of God’s wind is both for judgment and cleansing. The exiles had disappointed Yahweh in their turning away. Clearly, God is a frustrated parent. When have you acted as a “stupid child” (v.22) in the face of God? When did you begin to feel God’s wisdom taking over your foolishness?
Psalm 14: 1-7
Are any wise?
A good psalm to follow the Jeremiah reading. God looks down upon us to ask “are there any wise among you?” What does God see when looking at this generation? Is there an abundance of wisdom? Foolishness? Who are the “wise ones” in your life, past and present?
1 Timothy 1: 12-14
Appointed to Christ's service
In this passage the writer of 1 Timothy seems to be suggesting that God shows grace and mercy to the foolish who are only foolish out of ignorance (rather than evil). What about the rest of us? When has your foolishness been “because you knew no better?” And when has it ended up being more intentional? How did you seek God’s mercy?
1 Timothy 1: 15-17
In Christ...the utmost patience
Finally the writer of 1 Timothy says that in Christ we discover “utmost patience.” Isn’t it the truth! Today give thanks for our patient Savior who understands our ignorant foolishness. What would you share with someone about Christ’s patience with you?
Luke 15: 1-10
Lost and found
Read again the passages from last Sunday’s sermon. What do you see, feel, hear that you did not get out of the sermon? When have you been lost? What did it feel like to be discovered once more? Found? How did you give thanks? When have you sought a “lost” soul?
Psalm 79: 1-9
Preparing for Sabbath
Use this day to prepare for Sunday. Use Psalm 79 as your meditation. What do you seek in tomorrow’s Sabbath? What will you bring to share with God and with your community?
