It is with great excitement and anticipation that we welcome Rev. Paul Sabin and his wife, Linda, into the family of St. Luke’s UMC! It’s tempting to say that we welcome Rev. Sabin back to St. Luke’s, as some of us remember him from the time he was with the Mississippi Methodist Children’s Home here in Jackson. Paul’s time at the Mississippi Children’s Home represents but a portion of his ministerial journey. For more information about Paul, visit the Pastor’s Corner.

Barbara O’Neil grew up in Des Moines, Iowa, and lived in California for a while before moving to Jackson.  Barbara has grown children living in Mississippi and Tennessee, and she has attended St. Luke’s since 2003. Barbara chose our church because of its friendly, accepting congregation and the help members provide to those in need. She spent several years working in the marketing area of a communications company, and we are glad that Barbara and God decided to put her experience to work at St. Luke’s.

In her role as Office Assistant, Fran McEwen often provides the first impression visitors have of our church, giving them a warm, friendly welcome that truly embodies the United Methodist spirit of "Open hearts. Open Minds. Open doors." St. Luke's counts itself lucky to have such a dedicated, cheerful worker as Fran, who can always be counted on for whatever assistance is needed.

Helen Bowen Bass has provided leadership for our music ministries for almost 2 decades. Her skill and passion for worship are the driving force behind our outstanding Adult Choir, which moves us all with its praises in music. We are grateful for the many hours Helen devotes to her work at St. Luke's, which includes directing the various children's choirs. The music these groups provide truly brings a "joyful noise" to our services.

Janice Parker grew up in the United Methodist Church in Springhill, Louisiana, and has served as a pianist/organist in churches for the past 40 years.  Although she holds degrees in English Education, Biblical Literature, and Library Science, playing the piano remains her chief joy.  Janice considers her role to be the "absolute best" position in the church, and finds that it is God’s will that she play at St. Luke’s.  The rest of us know that we love hearing her play at least as much as she loves providing uplifting music for the congregation.

"The Lord is my strength and song, and He has become my salvation.”
— Exodus 15:2a

“Life is like a piano – what you get out of it depends on how you play it.”

Victor Hernandez plays an instrumental role in the daily life of the church. Possessing an amazing versatility, Victor's skills range from expertise in computers and electronics to making sure there is enough Diet Coke in the refrigerator. Victor's enthusiasm, energy, and charm make him a congregation favorite. His genuine love for Christ bears evidence in the joy he gives to his work, and is reflected in the love St. Luke's members have for him.
